TRAINING OF PILOTS
Napier Aero Club Has Not the Staff PRESIDENT’S VIEWS Having no ground engineer or instructor, and not being in the position financially to procure them, the Napier Aero Club cannot entertain the idea of applying to the Government for one of the new Miles-Hawk aeroplanes to be acquired for the training of pilots by aero clubs. When the machines arrive in New Zealand, perhaps next March, they will be allocated to clubs, hut no decision in this respect has yet been reached by the Government. “Thip district is well served by the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club,” said the president of the Napier Aero Club, Mr A. Wright, yesterday morning. “But we hope that at some future date it will be possible to get Government assistance to have a plan e for Napier, to be controlled by the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club, but mainly for the use of Napipr members of that club, who are in most cases members of the Napier Aero Club also.”
The Napier Aero Club, knowing the financial obligations of owning a machine, had kept interest going with the aid of gliders, he added, hoping that some day an opportunity would arrive whereby those interested in power flight might obtain assistance from the Government.
“At present, we have neither an instructor nor a ground engineer, nor have we the finances to procure these, so it would be uselesp for our club to apply for one of the four new planes,” Mr Wright concluded.
