ROSE—BULL WEDDING IN NAPIER

A marriage of much interest took place at St. John’s Cathedral, Napier, when, before a very large gathering of relatives and friends, the Rev. C. Hyde united in holy matrimony Nora Maryoungest daughter of Mr H. Bull and the late Mrs Bull, “Rosewood,” Napier, and Thomas Edward, eldest son of Mr and Mrs E. T. Rose, Palmerston North.

The chancel of the Cathedral was beautifully, decorated with a profusion of kentia palms, Christmas lilies, pelargoniums, azaleas, pastel sweet peas and watsonias. In the altar vases were white roses, Christmas lilies and bridal gladioli. Guests’ seats were marked with a large white bow. , Elntering the church escorted by her father, the bride made .a most attractive picture in her trained model wedding gown of ivory Nottingham lace and satin. The gown was moulded to the figure to the knees and softly flared to the feet. The train of satin was inlet into the back of the gown at the knee-line, flaring out in circular style, and was finished with a shower shape applique of the lace; similar satin appliques edged the lace hem of gown. Fashioned with a high neckline the bodice had ft deep circular yoke composed of rows of narrow satin roleau hand faggoted together. The sleeves were full and finished with a deep cult pointed over the wrist and trimmed with tiny satin buttons. The very long oblong veil of ivory net was edged deeply with lace to match the gown. It was arranged from a pleated halo ■of net finished with orange blossom and fell gracefully in misty folds as a second train.

Satin shoes were worn and she carried a handsome trailer bouquet of liiium longifolium (St. Joseph lilies) white hot-house roses and stephanolis, veiled in maidenhair fern and finished with ivory satin ribbon. Four bridesmaids were in attendance —the Misses Enid Wardell-Johnson-(chief), Cara Hutchinson, Theona Rose (sister of the bridegroom), Palmerston North, and Phyllis Peterson, Hastings. They made a very attractive group at the chancel steps in their full picture frocks of deep Parma violet chiffon taffetas. T..e frocks were all fashioned alike with jery full flared skirts and the bodices of Empire type had a narrow shirring at the waistline with a velvet sash to finish. ’The high, round neckline was outlined al) round by a flat kilted edging of the material caught in front with a large cluster of velvet Parma violets. The sleeves were puffed to the elbow, where they were.shined to fit and finished with taffetas kilting and narrow velvet ribbon Their large picture hats of violet net matched the frocks in colour and were banded with velvet ribbon to tone. Also matching were their velvet sandals and each carried a bouquet of pastel pink and mauve sweet peas also mauve rhododendrons and maidenhair fern finished with a long trailer of rhododendron florets. They, wore also the bridegroom’s gift, a broad gold bracelet embossed in relief, that of the chief bridesmaid being set in pearls and amethysts. To Air J.'Mcßride. (Raetihi) were entrusted the duties of best man and those of groomsmen were carried out by Messrs Alan Rose (Palmerston North), brother of the bridegroom, W. Harvey and H. Manson (Ractihij. Ushers at the church were Messrs F. Griffin (cousin of bride), and G. Petersen (Hastings).

The Cathedral organist, Mr P. W. Tombs, played appropriate bridal music. After the ceremony some 150 guests were entertained by. the bride’s father at the Victoria Hall, Mrs Roy Limbrick, of Wellington (sister of the bride), acting as hostess. She received the guests jn a smart model streamlined gown of delphinium blue crepe satm, the bodice having a rounded neckline in front and deep V at the back outlined with a plaiting of pastel flame, flue and green satin. A short flared capelet of the same material edged with a frill made a pretty finish to the frock. She wore an evening coatee of wh-te erminette and on her hair a bandeau of pastel-tinted natural flowers. The bouquet carried was of sweet peas in pastel shades finished with maidenhair fern and ribbon to tone.

Mrs E. J. Rose (mother of the bridegroom) wore a model gown in navy peau-d’-ange lace cut on graceful lines. Her hat of navy straw toned and the bouquet carried was composed of beautiful Hadley roses and maidenhair fern.

In the Victoria Hall long tables » ere set the full length of the ballroom and at one end a cross-table, the three-tier wedding cake being set in the centre before the bride. It was surmounted with a small silver vase with orange bud posy. The tables were covered with green cloths and were decorated with pyrethum, sweet peas, broom, gffidiol; and thrift in fuchsia tones lightened with blue larkspur, delphinium and green fern.

A very happy time was spent at supper, when Mr A. E. Renouf acted as toastmaster and all the usual i oasts were heartily honoured, that 4 fl lo bride and bridegroom being prowned by Mr H. Wardell-Johnson. Congratulatory telegrams were read and short speeches made. A dance followed, music being supplied by an orchestra under Miss Betty Cooper.

Bull and family, Mr and Mrs Palleson and family, Mr and Mrs Hector Bull and family, Mr and Mr H. Whyte and family, Mr and Mrs C. C. Sorrell, Mr and Mrs C. W. Nash, Messrs G. and A. Bull. Relatives of the bridegroom present were: Mr and Mrs and the Misses Rose , (3), (Palmerston North), Mr and Mrs

Rush (Nelson), Mr and Mrs A. McHardy (Bay View), Mr and Mrs J. Etheridge, Mr and Mrs J. Tait (Eskdale), Mrs W. Cooper (Gisborne), Mr Alan Rose (Palmerston North). Mrs Day was a guest from Palmerston North.

The presents received were very numerous and beautiful, testifying to the high esteem in which the young couple are held. The charming bouquets carried by the bride and her attendants were the gift of and personally made by Mrs Andrew J. Anderson, Napier, who also made the men’s buttonholes and the’ posy for the top of the cake from real orange blossom buds. When departing for the honeymoon—a motor tour north, tne young couple were given a rousing send-off. Mrs Rose was wearing an Amemm model twopiece ensemble, the r roek comprising a skirt of white silk crepe with short puff sleeved bodice of navy organdie, with large flower at the neckline, lie hip-length coat of navy and white fancy, stripe georgette was slightly fitting and the sleeves had undermffs of nary organdie to match bodice. She wore a shady bangkok hat banded in navy ribbon, navy and white aid tndel?, white hat and gloves. Mr and Mrs Rose will make their future homo in Palimrjton North.
