SEARCH FOR THE VIKING
Week Overdue at Loyd Howe Island SYDNEY, November 11. The destroyer Vendetta to-day began a search for the Viking, which is overdue at Lord Howe Island. The large yacht Wanderer, owned by Mr Norman Wallis, of Sydney, has also left for the same purpose, Mr Wallis, who is a friend of the owner of the Viking, Mr Gower Wilson, has five companions and provisions for ten days. The French steamer Cape Tarifa, en route to Noumea from Port Keinbla, is diverting from her course with the object of searching for the Viking.
The Viking, an -auxiliary cruising craft, 32 feet long, powered with a 30 horse-power' motor, left Sydney for Lord Howe Island on November 1, and Should have reached its destination last Thursday at the latest.- The vessel was built at Sydney for Mr- • Gower ■ Wilson, a boarding-house proprietor on the island. Mr Wilson is an •experienced boatman; and was in charge of the-craft. He had navigating instruments and-a navigator aboard, and provisions p.nd water for six persons for ten. days. Those ■on board, are Mr Gower Wilson and his 20-year-old son, Police-Sergeant Hammill, and Messrs H. Higgs, L. Hart, and. 8. Murray. ,
