Meat Supplied by Freezing Works to Employees BUTCHERS* QUERY
“Are the abattoir fees collected by the council on all meat sold by the local freezing works to the general public?” asked the Hawke’s Bay Master Butchers’ Association in a letter that camo before the Hastings Borough Council last evening. The works committee reported that the Mayor had conferred with the manager of Nelsons (N.Z.), Ltd., regarding this matter, and that the manager had advised that meat was retailed only to the company’s employees. and also that suppliers of fat •tock were allowed to obtain possession of any rejected carcases. No abattoir fees were collected on meat from the carcases supplied to these people. In the event of Whakatu Freezing works supplying any of the butchers with carcases of meat, then the fees on •uch carcases were paid to Nelsons (N.Z.), Ltd., by the Hawke's Bay Farmers’ Meat Co. The committee recommended that a reply in the terms of the Mayor’s report be forwarded to the association, and this was carried.
