INDUSTRIAL AWARDS
Extremely Cumbersome
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 18.
A statement that many existing industrial awards were extremely cumbersome and in great need of recasting was made in the Arbitration Court this morning by an Auckland lawyer, Mr Lisle Alderton.
He said that there were many Instances of awards being cluttered up by annual additions to what frequently was an ill-conceived structure in the originial form. Many clauses were obsolete but were still retained and some extraordinary clauses were inserted, childish in their objects and sources of irritation. He realised the difficulty of recasting, but suggested that the drafting of the form should be a matter for an expert draftsman attached to the Court.
Mr Justice Page agreed, remarking that soon he would try to draft a standard form of award.
