HOCKEY
Hawke’s Bay v. Poverty Bay
SENIOR & JUNIOR MATCHES
Nelson Park, Hastings, will see the Hawke’s Bay senior and junior men’s representative teams in action to-mor-row against Poverty Bay in the annual fixtures between these two associations.
Hawke’s Bay with a strong leavening of Hastings players, who have shown great form m retaining possession of the Nordon Cup for the fourth season, strengthened by the elect of the Napier eleven which defeated Hastings for the Katapoi Cup in their only loss this year, will take the field with a forward line featuring the short, snappy exhilarating type of hockey and a (lei once that should be capable of withstanding the stoutest opposition.
Last year at Gisborne the Poverty Bay side won rather easily, but on this occasion, despite the fact that their team is an exceptionally strong one, they will have to give of their best to prove that last year’s victory was no fluke.
Junior hockey is in its infancy in Hawke’s Bay, but t[ie rapid improvement in the standard of play should enable the Bayites to wipe out last year’s defeat. All hockey enthusiasts should see the juniors in action at 1.30 p.m., and the senior match which commences at 3 p.m. will bid “au revoir” to the Hawke’s Bay Hockey Association’s 1936 playing season.
