SATURDAY WORK

Refused by Auckland Quarry Workers

INTERPRETATION OF ACT

(B» T.l.gr.Dh-Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, Sept. 17.

Maintaining that the provisions of the Factories Act apply to them, quarryworkers in Auckland who are members of the union have decided to refuse Saturday work from next Saturday. This decision was reached at a meeting last night. About 150 men are involved.

The secretary, Mr T. Stanley, said today that the decision was reached after the union had received “unsatisfactoryand conflicting statements from the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Labour, and the Labour Department at Auckland on the interpretation of the Factories Act.”
