Thanks From Mayor.

An expression of thanks and appreciation to those who organised the Chinese Fair, and to all those patrons who supported it i was made by the Mayor, .Mr. G. A. Maddison, in announcing to-day that the fair had been a decided success. Education in H.B. Tho Hawke’s Bay Education Board held its muni lily meeting in Napier Illis morning. The chairman, Mr. G. A. Maddison, presided over the Rev. It. B. Waugh and Messrs. 11. S. 8. Quigley. C. Lassen, <l. Wauchop, I!. C. Wright, T. Rowe, W. Cutliber ( a, T. Coleman. E. 11. Baker and U 11. Critchley. Carnivorous Land Snails. Seven new species of carnivorous land snails peculiar to the Nelson distrii / and discovered yuly within the last two years, were described in an address by Mr. A. W. B. Powell, couehologist at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, to the Auckland Institute. They differed, he said, fiom the imported garden snail, as they were net vegetarians, but led on earth woiius. Their beautiful colours varied Doni bright chestnut to reddish brown, and tneir Jiighly-polislied shells were banded in additional colours, including green. Dairy Conference Thanks. At the conclusion of the Dairy Conference in Hastings to-day the chairman, Mr. A. Morton, expressed the delegates’ thanks to the people of Hustings, beginning with the Mayor and council, the Progress League, and to others, lor making the visit of the delegates so pleasant. Special thanks were due to Mr. 11. R. von Dadelszen, secretary of the Heretaunga Dairy Co., for tlio time and trouble that lie had devoted to arranging accommodation, and to other matters. The gratitude of the delegates was duo to him particularly. Mr. Morton has now completed 25 years as chairman of the conference, and in acknowledgment of Ids jubilee he was accorded musical honours. and given three rousing cheers.
