MAORI WEDDING
Great Event Held at Tolaga Bay A very pretty wedding took place at Tolaga Bay on Thursday, when Hare Manawapau Amaru, youngest non of Airs T. Amaru, and the late Air Tuahine Amaru, was married to Aliss Winiata Waiwai, daughter of Air and Airs P. Waiwai, Waikarcinoaun. The wedding was one of the largest and most important < elobrated in 'i o laga Bay for some years. The bridegroom is a direct descendant from the leading lines of all the East Coast tribes. His grandfather was Karaitiana Amaru, who married a grand-daugtiter of Hata Te Kani, known to his many friends as "Chief.” Air Hare Amarn has always been prominent in Coast Rugby and hockey circles. In order to properly accommodate the large number of guests the ceremony was performed from the veranda of To Hauiti mooting house, which had been beautifully decorated with hydrangeas and native greenery. Elder Willard G. Tingey, assisted by Eider Brown, officiated at the ceremony, which opened with tho hymn "Koutou Katoa Ra.” The bride, who was escorted by her father, looked chaining in her frock of white and silver brocade and chantilly Jacc, cut on classical liues and failing into a sweeping train. A silver girdle finished tho waist-lino and she wore a beautifully embroidered lirassells lace veil, which was held to her head with a spray of orange blossoms. Her shoes were of white brocade, ami she carried a charming bouquet of roses and carnations with asparagus fern and tied with a white bow to which was attached a silver horseshoe. She was attended by four bridesmaids, Alisses Hannah and Star Mauneell, cousins of tho bridegroom, Topsy Thatcher and Winnie Alilroy, who worn dressed alike in graceful frocks of creme matalasso crepe cut on slenaer lines, and falling into sweeping trains. Gold girdles finished the waist-line and they wore gold halo headbands to match. They carried sprays of autumntinted leaves. Tho duties of best :nan were carried out oy Air Wi Pete Anarn, brother of the bridegroom, while Messrs Chappie Smith and Peter Ngaere were groomsmen. After the ceremony a reception at which over 200 guests were entertained, was held in the Hauiti Hall, which had been specially decorated for the occasion by friends of tho bride. Prominent at the bridal table was a magnificent three-tiered cake, and nt tho farther end of the hall were two tables laden with beautiful presents, all a trinute to the popularity of the young couple. During the breakfast the guests were entertained with pianoforte solos by Air B. Otene, of Hastings, and Maori action songs of welcome by Alaori maidens.
