McARTHUR RETURNING

Longest Extradition Case in Australian History FALSE-PROSPECTUS CHARGE (Received 24, 10.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 24. Extradition proceedings which are said to have been the most protracted in the history of Australia will end today when John William McArthur leaves Sydney under escort for New Zealand by the Monowai to answer a charge of having issued a false prospectus.

McArthur, who was arrested on a provisional warrant last October, appealed unsuccessfully to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and then to the High Court of Australia. In no previous instance have such appeals been made in Australia. No other person against whom charges of this nature have been pending has ever succeeded previously- in obtaining bail.
