UNREGISTERED CAR
Man Fined at Waipukurau A serious view was taken by Mr J. Miller, S.M., when a case involving the driving of an unlicensed motor vehicle came before him at the Waipukurau Magistrate’s Court this morning. In imposing a fine, Mr Miller pointed out that in the event of an accident involving injury to a third party there would bo no insurance cover. John Lovett, Waipukurau, was charged with affixing the wrong numbei plates to a car, also with using an unlicensed motor vehicle. Arising out of tho same offence, D. W. White was charged with causing the wrong number plates to be affixed to the car.
Constable D. H. Sutton said that Lovett had borrowed tho plates from White for one day only in order to bring the car which he had bought from Hastings to Waipukurau. Ho had, however, retained the plates and had eventually sold the car with them on it. 'The purchaser had boon involved in an accident at Woodville, and that was how the police had discovered tho offence. In fairness to Lovett, it could bo mentioned that he had endeavoured to get the necessary papers from the previous owner in order to register tho car. On tho first charge Lovett was fined £2, and on the second £1 10/-, costs 10/-. White was fined £l, costs 10/-.
