HASTINGS POPULATION

Compilation of the Census Completed

The work in connection with the census in-Hastings has been completed and there is every reason to anticipate that the actual figures will be available for publication on Monday. The final returns for Hastings were forwarded to the enumerator at Napier yesterday afternoon and his check was commenced this morning. He anticipates concluding the task to-day and he will immediately report to the Government Statistician at Wellington. The ufeual procedure adopted in respect of other returns appears to have been for the official announcement from Wellington to be made within 48 hours of their receipt from the various centres, and no doubt the same procedure will be adopted as regards the Hastings figures.
