Wild Duck Plentiful From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, April 23. It has been reported that there are plenty of duck on the Lake, and prospects for local sportsmen on May 1 seem pa: Ocularly bright. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Nominations for the Waipukurau District High School Committee closed last night. The new committee will be Messrs J, G. Blair, C. Cassidy, F. F. Frost, C. F. Haycock, V. L. King, L. Renner, F. Sayliss, T. Spencer and J. J. White. There are seven new members and two were re-elected, Messrs F. Sayliss and C. F. Haycock. The annual meeting of householders is to be held next Wednesday evening. FARMERS’ UNION.

A branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was formed at Ongaonga on Tuesday. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr W. C. Coles; vice-chairmen, Messrs E. 8. Bibby and A. J. Parker; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. C. Daniels; delegate to provincial council, Mr N. J. Jameson, The committee elected subject to approval of those absent and with power to add was: —Messrs J. R. Beachen, E. Bibby, J. Bibby, J. Buchanan, E. C. Bradley, F. C. Daniels, G. F. Gunson, N. Jameson, Mrs Masters and Messrs G. Wilson, C. Wyley, W. Leach, D. Holden, A. J. Parker, E. F. Whitworth, Haldane and JqAson. The provincial president, Mr R. E. Talbot, was also present and congratulated members on the formation of the branch. He also answered a number of questions. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the chair and Mr Talbot SALE OF POPPIES. A grand total of £29 17/- was collected by High School girls in Waipukurau through the sale of poppies on Tuesday. Returns from Pukeora and Porangahau are not yet available, and so the total amount realised is not known. LADIES’ GOLF. Following were the best cards handed in for the stroke match played on the Muharakeke links on Wednesday:— Seniors: Miss Billington, 96—15—81. Juniors: Miss Nola Williams, 99—24 —75.
