OCEAN AIR TERMINUS

“Flying-Boat Specials” to London SECRET OF NEW MACHINES (From Our Special Correspondent). (By Air Mail). LONDON, March 28. Air Ministry officials are now deciding on the great new air terminals for the Transatlantic air routes to start this summer. The main terminus in Britain will be at Langstone Harbour, Portsmouth. A flying boat harbour will be built there, and jetties, similar to those of a ship harbour, will protect it from rough weather. Hangars and slip-ways for the air boats will border it. | Next to it there will probably be an ; airdrome, where air liners from all parts of Britain may connect up with the Atlantic service. There will also bo a direct train service to London. These trains will be “flying-boat specials.” From Langstone liners will fly non-stop to Galway, Ireland, where they will re-fuel for the Atlantic crossing.

In a secret hangar at the De Havilland aircraft factory at Hatfield new high-speed airplanes for the direct Britain to New York route are being built. They will bo low-wing monoplanes with four 12-eylinder engines and a maximum speed of 250 m.p.h. Twelve passengers will .be carried in a spacious cabin. In the control “office” there will be two pilots and a radio operator. Next September will see their first crossing.
