HASTINGS TOWNSWOMEN

Literary Circle Meets The first meeting for 1936 uf the literary and play-reading circle of the Hastings Townswomen’s Guild was held in St. Matthew’s schoolroom last week. Tho co-leaders, Mrs lUley and Miss Ford, were both present, and all members showed a keen interest.

After the singing of the National Anthem and the reading of the minutes, Mrs Edwards, wlio was responsible for the programme, was asked io take charge, wiiicli she did in a very able manner.

The first item was a short playreading “The Boy Comes Home,” those taking part being Mesdames Kdwards, Jackson, Deans, Misses Ford and Strang, and Mi's Crawford. A speed competition was won by Miss Ford. Mrs Edwards then gave a reading “Ecstasy,” by Hugh Walpole. Miss btrang recited “The Uld Couple” and Mrs Crawford read ' “How the Great Guest Came.” It was decided to have a New Zealand Authors Day for next month. All interested are invited to be present, and new members will be welcomed.
