Expressions Should Charm WHERE ATTRACTION LIES Sometimes you hear people say: “She is pretty but I don’t know why,” and then, if you stop to think a minute, you realise how much of the attraction which some girls possess is dependent ou charm of expression. The trouble is that most of us cannot see how we appear to others. No matter how often we look in the morror or how much care we take of our complexion and hair, few of us have any idea of what our expression is when once we are away from the mirror. Well, depend on it, if you are nervy or irritable or despondent your ex pression is bound to be the same, and will grow worse unless you give the matter a little thought in time. Now how can one have a charming expression? First of all, conquer your nerves. Choose the foods which will give you energy and vitality and yet not increase your waist measurements. If your diet has included too much tea and bread and butter do not be surprised to find yourself run down and tired towards the end of the summer. So start to put that right at once. Banish the w T hite loaf for a month or so, and put in its place the real wholemeal one. Less starch and more vitamins you see. Then, instead of cooking your breakfast egg, try taking it raw with a spoonful of fresh cream. Eggs have twice the nourishment when eaten raw. Eat at least two raw tomatoes every day, and always a lettuce salad at dinner or lunch. Take honey, which gives energy, instead of jam, and a lemon drink instead of tea before breakfast. All these foods, you will find, feed the nervous system, and take off, rather than put on, weight. Remember that tiredness is beauty’s greatest enemy. Cod liver oil in small doses is almost miraculous in banishing fatigue. It is a food, tonic and nerve sedative all in one. Now comes the question of rest.

Some girls are continually fussing because they do not get enough, sleep. If you are one or these make up your mind to go to bed earlier for three nights a week. Jf you cannot do so, stop fussing, but just determine that the hours you spend in bed will be restful, health-giving ones. Nothing can take the place ot restful sleep, and any girl who wants to keep fresh and young should recognise it as the best beautiiier in the world. A lew hours of deep sleep are better than many of light, nervous slumber. Turn off all thought the iroirent you get into bed. It may take a few nights, or even weeks, to cultivate this good habit, but once learnt it is 1 .nt for life.

Eat a light supper before retiring. A glassful of warm milk is an old and excellent sleep-inducer. One tip worth knowing is that a quarter of a nutmeg grated and sprinkled on top of the milk acts like a sleeping draught, and is, by the way, a complexion beautifior as well.

Before you go to sleep relax your eyes. Nervous people often sleep the whole night with the eye muscles screwed up and tense, and early wrinkles and even bad sight are caused by this harmful habit. The next time you feel wide awake when you should bo sleeping just notice the way your head lies on the pillow. You will find, maybe, that the muscles of your neck are absolutely tense. Until you relax these and allow the head to fall heavily and limply on the pillow you cannot possibly achieve a deep sleep and a serene, rested expressnon in the morning.
