BEEF VALUES EASE
Big Yarding of Fat Cattle Offered STORTFORD LODGE SALE Ox beef eased in values of up to 15/- per head at Stortford Lodge to-day, which was not quite equal to the decrease shown at Westfield last week. I’he yarding of 330 fat cattle included the largest entry ot good bullocks that has been made for many months. 'l’he top price was £ll 10/- for a largeframed, prime quality Hereford bullock with several pens of both P.A. and Herefords making to £ll 6/-. Down from Rukumoana Station, a large draft of well-bred entries and which could be readily topped off found a good market. The outstanding entries of both young cows and heifers was a particularly fine line of well-bred Herefords which were in extra prime finish to make to £8 12/6 for heifers and £8 6/- for cows. Values for this special offering were fully on a par with late rates. Light and unfinished cows met with a quiet inquiry with values showing an easing tendency. The market can be guaged from the following values for selected entries: — BULLOCK V ALUES. A pen of fine, heavy, prime Hereford and Shorthorn cross bullocks, well framed, ranged from £lO 10/- to £ll 6/--I’wo medium-framed, solidly-finished, prime-quality Shorthorn bullocks made £lO 17/-. A bid of £ll 5/- secured a single medium-framed P.A. of prime quality. An equally well-finished, slightly lighter similar bred bullock made £lO 17/6. A line pen ot P.A. and P.A.-Here-ford cross weighty bullocks, solidly finished, being a useful line of young beef, made from £lO 13/- to £lO 18/6. Two well-framed Shorthorn bullocks ol useful weights in prime older made £lO 17/6. One slightly lighter made £l3 6/-. A well-grown, heavy, prime quality Shorthorn, 18 months steer, made £7 10/-. Three Shorthorn and llerelord cross well-framed, heavy bullocks carrying prime condition made to £lO 18/-. A pen of five Hereford bullocks, well framed weight' uud prime finished, made from £ll 15/- to £ll 2/-. Down from Rukumoana Station, a pen of eight medium-framed young P.A. and P.A. Hereford cross bullocks carrying good condition sold in a line at £9. On account ot the .ame station, a further pen ot similar bred bullocks, but slightly smaller than the previous pen, also sold in a line at £8 15/- to be finished at Te Mahanga. Also from the same source a pen ot eight medium-weight, well-bred P-A. bullocks were secured by the same purchaser at £8 15/-. A pen of four .medium-weight young Hereford bullocks showing good condition despite the four days’ road journey made £8 12/6.
Also from the Rukumoana draft, a , further pen of well-bred, medium- I framed young P.A. bullocks, which should finish of! readily, made £8 11/6. A pen of six wtll-bred, joung. me-dium-framed I’.A. bullocks, healthy and of good weights, but would finish off tq extra prime quality in a short time, made to £9 10/-. A single large-framed, heavy, prune, quality Hereford bullock made £ll 10/-. A per ol li'e P.A., including one showing a Hereford cross, bullocks, well-framed, weighty and prime finish, made to £ll 5/--A hid of 110 16/- secured a !>en ol five well-grown, weightv I’.A. bullocks A pen of similar bred bullocks which could stand a little more finish made to CIO 13/-. A pen of seven nicely-grown I A. and P.A.-Hereford cross, well-finished vealers made to £3 19/-. HEIFER HATES Three young prime quality P.A. heifers in from Mangalerelero nmile £5 10/-. On account of Mr Oswald Nelson, Mangateretere, a pen of five P.A.-P.A - Hereford cross, young, small to medium framed heifers carrying prime quality, being nicely finished, made to £7 10/-. Also on account of Mr Nelson three xuuilai bred small to medium framed
heifers, slightly lighter than the previous pen, made £6 16/-. The pen was a fine offering of choice young beef. On account of Mr. F. .N. H. Beamish, Whana Whana, a pen of four well-bred weighty extra prime quality heifers, being a well selected entry of young beef, made £8 10/-. Also on account of Mr Beamish a further pen of similar bred prime quality heifers realised £8 6/- after keen competition. On account of Mr E. H. Beamish. Kahutanui, a pen of six heavy extra prime well bred Hereford hellers, being very solidly finished to make a choice entry of beef, made from £8 2/- to £8 12/6. From the same source a further pea of similar bred and equally well finished heifers made to £8 4/-. COW PRICES. On account of Mr F. N. H. Beamish. Whana Whana, a pen of well-bred, heavy, young Hereford cows, extra well finished, being of exceptionally good cutting quality, made from £8 1/- to £8 6/-. On account of Mr E. H. Beamish, Kahutunui, a single large-tramed heavy, young Shorthorn cow, carrying prime finish, topped the market at £9 12/-. Also on account of Mr Beamish a pen of well-bred heavy prime quality Hereford cows made to £8 4/-.
