POWER LINE BROKEN

Tree Blown Down at Pukahu This Morning SERIOUS INTERRUPTION The falling of a tree on to a powerline near Pukahu early this morning caused a serious and prolonged break down in the power supply for more' than an hour from about 7.20 o’clock this morning. There was a strong wind blowing at the time, and the tree, which was evidently weakened at the roots by previous storms, was blown over. The interruption in the power extended over a considerable area from Marackakaho road to Havelock North, and caused a great deal of inconvenience to dairy farmers and to house wives cooking by electricity. A slight mishap to one of the generators in the Hastings power station caused an interruption in the supply of a.c. power at about 7 o’clock this morning. The fault was quickly remedied. and the breakdown lasted for only a few minutes.
