Auckland City Tops The 100,000 Mark

Tho collection of census papers in Hastings is now almost completed, and it is expected that by this evening tho few outstanding schedules will have been collected. For various reasons the work of collecting schedules in Hastings was made more difficult than in some other towns and it appears that the number of men appointed to carry out the task could well have been larger. The returns have to be sent into the Chief Post Office hi Napier for checking, and the figures should be innounced within the next few days Hastings and Hamilton are the only two of the larger boroughs in respect uf which the population figures have not yet been published. Thirteen returns larger than the Hastings figure is likely to be, and ranging up to the 102,000 for Auckland city, have already been announced
