WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

Shsrenden Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Sherenden Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Thursday. There was a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode. Mrs. Boyd presided, and the usual business was quickly dealt with. A demonstration on making mops and polishers from sheepskins was given by Airs. Baker, after which Mrs. xiiggir and Mrs. Horne gave interesting talas ou institutes.

After an enjoyable afternoon tea Aliss Murray gave a demonstration of tatting and Mrs. N. Beamish showed the members how to prepare a fibre bowl for the competition in August. The competitions were well contested, the results being:—Best decorated vase. Miss Al. Attwood 1, Aliss N. Atv wood 2, Aliss Al. Boole 3; best collee tion of six different flowers, Airs. N. Beamish 1, Airs. J. Lowe 2, Airs. W. Hoss 3; best collection of pickles, chut ueys, etc., Aliss Al. /Attwood. During the afternoon there was a sixpenny bring-and-buy for the Plunkel Baby Fund, which brought forth good results. The meeting closed after a most en joyable and instructive afternoon Putorino Group The monthly meeting of the I’utoriuo Women’s Institute was held in the Putorino Hall, the chair being taken by Airs Mabey, who welcomed two new members to the Institute. Aliss Haliburton. a member who is leaving shortly for a trip to England, was wished a happy and enjoyable voyage. Mrs Harris was appointed as the Institute’s representative lor the Northern Hawke’s Bay Council meeting in Napier on April 24 and also to the conference to be held in Dunedin The best arranged foliage compete tion was won by Miss Fay Lange, Mrs Lange being second and Afesdames AleDonald and Mabey third equal. Airs Lange and Aliss Haliburton wen first equal for the six best tomatoes, and Mrs Harris third. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs Alabey, who exhibited a beautiful bronze chrysanthemum. A dainty afternoon tea was served by Miss Haliburton, who was hostess. Tutira Group Dance Dn Friday evening the lutira Women's Institute held its annual dance in the Tutira Hall. Ihe hall was gaily decorated with streamers of red and black, and the dance continued to the excellent music ol the Klick-Kluck Orchestra until a late hour As a result of the excellent work ol the Institute members the funds of the hall committie will In augmented considerable.
