OBITUARY

Mr. W. H. Dewstow The death took place this morning of Mi- William Henry Dewstow, of Gascoigne street, Hastings. Born at Plymouth (England) in 1850, tho late Mr Dewstow camo to New Zealand about 66 years ago, making Wellington his place of. residence for a few years. He then came to Hawke’s Bay aud had divided his time between .living in Napier and in Hastings. A builder by occupation, he played his part in the growth of both towns and was concerned in the construction of a number of the big structures, many of which have now. been remodelled as a result of the earthquake. For example, he worked on the job of building the first Grand Hotel building in Hastings. In Napier he will be remembered also as the proprietor of a fruit store. Though he did not take a prominent part in the civic life of the district, he was well-known and highly respected, and widespread sympathy will bo extended to those who are left. His wife predeceased him six years ago, There are left one son, Mr Charles Dewstow, of Sydney, and four daughters, Mesdamcs 11. Stock (Napier), H. Benjamin (Tauranga), 11. Nolo (Lower Hutt), and G. S. Beckett (Hastings). The funeral will leave the residence of his daughter, Mrs Beckett, 110 Gascoigne street, Hastings, to-morrow afternoon at 2.30 o’clock for the Hastings cemetery.

Mr. H. Greenfield

The death occurred suddenly this morning of Mr Herbert Greenfield, a carpenter, residing at “Green Gables,’’ Hastings. Mr Greenfield was riding his bicycle along Heretaunga street in the direction of Stortford Lodge when, feeling unwell, he dismounted and ns ho did so was seen to collapse and fall to the ground. He was immediately taken to the Memorial Hospital, but just as he arrived there he died. For some time Mr Greenfield had been suffering from ill-health , and had been receiving medical attention. Mr Greenfield, who was 54 years of age, was a single man. He leaves a brother in Napier.
