NEW BUILDINGS
Progress of Hastings Borough WORKS NOW IN HAND The completion of three important buildings in Hastings, the Bank of New South Wales, tho shops reconstructed from the premises recently occupied by Henry Williams and Sons, and the twostorey block of shops being built on the site formerly occupied by tho Bon Marche, ig well advanced. The manager of the Bank of New South Wales, Mr 11. Bridge, stated this morning that the building will probably be ready for occupation within a month’s time. It is costing some £14,000 or £15,000, and will have accommodation for a number of offices on the upper floor. The ground floor will be used entirely by tne bank itself. The other shops are being built for Hawke’s Bay Buildings, Ltd., a local syndicate. The two-storeyed block is to cost £6350, and the other shops, of which there will be two, are to cost £ll3O. The larger block will contain three shops, one of which is to be occupied by Mr H. B. Knight, chemist, one by Messrs Harvey’s jewellery business, aud the third by a Napier firm of hairdressers.
Tile whole of the upper floor will be occupied by the furnishing firm of Christie’s, and will be used for manufacturing purposes in connection with their present business. The two shops now being reconstructed from the other building will bo occupied by a butcher and by a boctmaker.
