WORKING WOMEN

Hastings Branch Meets Mrs. Bellerby presided at the weekly meeting of the Hastings branch of the Working Women’s Movement when the financial statement was adopted by the members. It was decided that the financial year end in the third week of March instead of in February. The secretary read a most interesting report from the national office giv. . iug the activities for the past two months of the United Council of the Working 'Women and its affiliated organisations. The Hastings branch noted with interest the fine work carried on in other branches in both North and South Islands and the secretary was instructed to send congratulations and greetings to all branches. A letter was read explaining the New Zealand Women’s Pan-Pacific Association which is part of an international movement. This union is an association of the nations bordering on the Pacific and is formed, for the improvement of international relations and co-operation. The object of the union is the promotion of international goodwill and co-operation between the different women’s organisations in the different countries. Research work is carried on in different fields so that experience can be shared. Subjects at present being dealt with are health, traffic in arms and youth movements for peace. The members of the Hastings W.W.M. recommended that the movement be affiliated with the PanPacific Union recognising the union as an important organisation for peace. They would then receive all reports and findings of the union and would be able to assist in the research work and generally help the union. The meeting next Tuesday will be held at the home of Mrs. Bellerby, 811 Cook street.
