OTAMAURI SPORTS
Successful Meeting Held (From Our Special Reporter.) The Otamauri Sports Club held a most successful meeting on Saturday, when they were favoured by beautiful weather, and there was a record attendance of local residents. In addition there were many ears from Napier, Hastings and afar to enjoy a real picnic sports meeting. The grounds, kindly loaned by Mr W. L. Nelson, Whakamarumaru, were in excellent condition and were most suitable for a pleasant outing. This club has grown from quite a small beginning to be an efficient sports association, and is now in the happy position of being able to offer added attractions at each successive meeting. The officials, under the leadership of Mr E. 11. Liddle, hon. secretary, were all on the job, and the different events were got off with despatch. Mr T. V. Morrin was adjudicator of all the horse events, and his judging was received with much satisfaction. Mr G. Mason was in charge of the children’s racing, etc., and Mr MeConnor the live-sheep guessing competition. Messrs E. 11. ,F. N., H. and H. F. Beamish, A. Whyte, A. Hyslop, W. L. Nelson and W. Dysart (assistant secretary) and others were members of a real good team. At the conclusion of the sports the prizes were presented by Mrs E. H. Beamish. Following are the results: — Best girl rider, under 15:—Marion Beamish 1, Jill Beamish 2, Eileen Nelson 3. Best boy rider, under 15.—Alex Agnew 1, Bert Duff 2, Tom Agnew 3. Eleven teams entered for this event. The Nelson Alemorial Cup for most points in all horse events, excluding the four jumping competitions ami the tug of-war, on a 3—2 —1 basis, was won by G. Hewetson, with nine points.
