WAIPAWA GOLF CLUB

Working Bee Wanted From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPAWA, March 13. | A matter which is of considerable interest to all golfers was considered by the committee of the Waipawa Goli Club at a meeting held last evening. A proposal was put forward by the Maharakeke club, with a view to holding a conference of all clubs in Central Hawke’s Bay, to consider ways and means of retaining the services of Kapi Tareha as coach. Kapi Tareha is this year turning professional, and should the result of the meeting bo successful, it must prove of great value to golfers throughout the district. Indications point to the season opening about the end of the present month. The greens are in excellent condition, and work on the tees is now being pushed ahead. A number of members have been at work clearing fairways, but there still ramains a good deal to bo done. No member need be shy about visiting the links (to work) and their assistance will be much appreciated by those on the job. On Wednesday the 25th and Saturday the 28th, all members are asked to lend their assistance, to a working bee to operate about the fairways in a general clean up before the opening. The ladies have already otganised their full muster for this purpose, and the committee hopes to see a full muster of all the men of the club on these days. From 3.30 p.m. on each day the workers may indulge in a stroke game, a very useful trophy having been presented for this purpose. Fourteen new members for the ladies’ section were nominated at their meeting on Monday night, a very useful addition to tlieir strength.
