A story from the pen of one of the most noted of present-day writers, Somerset Maugham, is to be placed in production at the 8.1. P. studios at the earliest opportunity. This is called “The Tenth Man”, and is a powerful drama of modern high finance. It tells of a financier who juggles with the securities of a vast corporation. He believes that nine out of ten men arc dishonest—and he has never met the tenth man. The vast financial structure which he has created is in danger of collapse. So he borrows the money to right it from another corporation in which he has an interest, but without the permission of the shareholders. He has no scruples and is almost getting away with it when he meets the one thing he did not believe to exist—the tenth man. What happens then makes one of the most dramatic and thrilling finishes ever written for a British film. Otto Kruger, tho well-known Hollywood actor, has been engaged to piny the role of the financier, and if should provide him with one of his greatest characterisations.
