COSY THEATRE
DOUBLE BILL TO-DAY. The mystery melodrama, “I Am a Thief,” comes to the Cosy to-day, with Mary Astor and Ricardo Cortez in the stellar roles. The story is set in the colourful background of Paris and the Continent, where impoverished nobles, beautiful adventuresses and men of diabolical cleverness plot to steal the famous Karenina diamonds, almost priceless jewels, which have been auctioned off as a bait to catch the thieves. Crime after crime is committed, including two cold-blooded murders, a third killing, and the injury of several others. “Half a Sinner” gay and tense comedy drama of a Kansas crossroads town, has been booked into the Cosy Theatre as the second feature tomorrow. With the noted stage star Berton Churchill, who plays the title role, are Joel McCrea aud Sallie Blane, the screen's newest and most delightful romantic team in this Universal picture. The story is that of a card sharp who arrives in a small town determined to outplay all the local poker enthusiasts.
He becomes involved in the exciting adventures and romance of Joel and Sallie. In one of the most surprising endings of any recent film, he solves their problems and his own. In addition to Mr Churchill as ‘‘The Deacon” and Miss Blane and Mr McCrea as the romantically inclined couple, “Half a Sinner,” introduces to the screen Alexandra Carlisle, noted stage star, and also has Gay Seabrook, Russell Hopton, little Mickey Rooney, Bert Roach and Clarence Wilson.
