TRENTHAM GALLOPS

Preparing for Saturday INTERESTING TRIALS (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.: WELLINGTON, Oct. 24. With several more visitors on hand, work at Trentham this morning was of an interesting "ature, but there still was little that was elucidating in the gallops. Serious last work was confined mainly to the centre’s own horses. The weather, alter yesterday’s lull day of rain, was drizzly early, but it cleared later. The pruspeets are still not too promising. The outside of the trial grass was mainly used, and the going was greasy but not heavy. Fracas, who looks as if she has oone a fair amount of work, ran seven furlongs in 1.35, the last half-mile iu 53 3-5. Dollar Bill was two lengths too good for Slasher over five furlongs iu 1.5 3-5, the last half being run ,n 1 52 2-5. Variant and Hostis were on terms after running half a mile iu 51. Roinpalung and Export finished two lengths in trout of Finnesko at the end of six furlongs in 1.20, the last halfmile taking 53 3-5, but Finnesko was not at home in the going. Sunee beat Arctic King by a length over seven furlongs in 1.33, the last half-mile occupying 53 1-5. Shy aud Going Gay took 1.21 for six ftqlougs. Dark Red beat Blue Bell over five furlongs in 1.7, the last half taking 54. Bodyiine, alter showing unwillingness to jump off, ran half a mile in 51 2-5. Lifeguard waited for Ayresleigh in the straight and then beat him home by a neck after running six furlongs in lil9 3-5. The last half-mils took Vanestep handled the tracJl better than Big Dook, whom she beat by a couple of lengths over six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. The last half-mile was run in 54. Vane, step is likely to run in the longer race on Saturday and Big Dook in the mile. Among other visitors out working were: Passion Fruit, Hunting Cai, Windward Shu, Greek Shepherd, Gasman, Pohika, Isms, Black Duke, Guarantee, Valarth and High Glee. The only schooling was done by Hilly Boy (E. Burgess) and Red Sun (C. Thomson), who gave a good 'lisf.ey over four fences. Several two-year-olds came down tiie course proper, but it was impossible to time those who started from the halfmile barrier, which is now hidden from the centre by trees. Dawning Light revealed her brilliance by leaving Siegmund lengths behind over five furlongs j that were run in better than 1.2. Paper Slipper appeared to ho going better than Wild Chase at the end of half a mile. Brabant and Eagle’s Eye were never above three-quarter pace. Mirth easily beat Emmeline Girl over half a mile. Kind Heart and Western Maid just cantered down the straight. Cricket moved well in a short sprint, but Deficit was not stretched out. Pelmet was also on the track. The tally of the field for the hack six furlongs reveals four certain nonstarters. and probably six or seven, so that a division will not be necessary.
