Ever since the Edward Bremers family was held up for 200,000 dollars ransom by St. Paul kidnappers, the United States Government police have been quietly investigating the St. Paul Police Department. I To-day the Chief of Police, Mr Michael Culligan, and eight of bis lead :ng oflieials were dismissed. Some will >o prosecuted for "a startling eounec-1 ion between police and gamblers con- ■ ducting a racehorse lottery on a large ' ■ ale. ” There is also alleged a sensationat i illicit connection between the police and lawyers specialising in criminal cases and with organised prostitution; also the "tip-off’’ system on raids.
