OTANE INTERESTS

Success of School Ball From Our Own Correspondent. OTANE, June 25. The monthly meeting of the Otane School Committee was held on Afonday night, Air A. E. Black, chairman, presiding over Messrs Oram, Page, Budge. Voyce and Williams (secretary). The headmaster reported that the average attendance for the past four weeks was 139.5 or 91 per cent. Hot cocoa was now being distributed each day, and was much appreciated by the children. The urn supplied by the committee was quite a success, and made the serving of the cocoa a very simple matter. The two pictures, “Carillon” and “King George V,” had arrived, nud made a welcome addition to the school pictures. Correspondence was received from the Education Board regarding the by law pertaining to cocoa; from Mr. J. Hill, M.A., Waipawa, thanking tho committee for the invitation to the school ball and expressing regret at being unable to be present; also a delightful letter of thanks for tickets for school ball from tho children of St. Hilda’s Homo.

A report of the recent school ball was considered highly satisfactory, and voles of thanks were passed to teachers and all who had in any way assisted to make the dance so successful. An unsolicited tribute, from one qualified to express an opinion, commenting on the excellent organisation of the ball and the obviously happy time the child ren spent, was very gratifying to both committee and teachers. The secretary reported that he had written to the Education Board rewarding the renewal of the tank, which was leaking badly. Several accounts were passed for payment. DOG TRIALS. At the local dog trials held recently at Tikokino, Ralph Mason, Smedley, secured second place in the heading event with 48 points (G. Afacmillan 49Jpts first), and also won the novice handicap, securing most points. PERSONAL NOTES. Airs J. Ashby, The Bungalow, is making slow but steady progress towards recovery from her serious illness.
