SALE OF PAINTINGS

Works of Mr. Perrett ART EVENT FOR HASTINGS Mr J. Douglas Perrett, the Auckland artist, whose work is well known in Hawke’s Bay, has brought to Hastings a small but’ select collection of his works, which are to be sold by auction by Alessrs Harvey, Fulton and Hill at 2 p.m. on Friday, almost without reserve of any kind. The paintings have been on view for the past day or two, and have attracted the attention of several picture-lovers. Mr Perrett has a facile brush, which lends a certain placid charm to the varied scenic subjects which have come under his eye. He is particularly happy in the portrayal of New Zealand lake and mountain scenery,- preferably cloaked in the purple haze of eventide, or the turquoise tints of early morning. One such picture in the present collection is a capital view of Mount Cook, a new view of the hoary old peak among peaks, yet one familiar to all visitors to the district. Distance and altitude are conveyed with admirable fidelity, with the last nod of departing day illuminating the cold ice-bound cap. This is a work that should command the attention of those who like such subjects. Included iu the collection are a number of works by other well-known artists and of prints and engravings.
