SCHOOL CADET SYSTEM
The question of demilitarising the whole cadet system in schools was discussed at length at the annual conference of the Secondary Schools’ Association held last month, according to a report made to the Napier Secondary Education Board yesterday by Mr W. T. Foster, who was present at the conference. “Apparently some schools
do much more than we do in the way of teaching the boys the use of lethal weapons, including machine guns am! cannons,” said Mr W. T. Foster
“Some eloquent speeches were made bv teachers who bad had experience of the horrors of war. and who were convinced that it was wrong to include instruction in ‘killing’ in tht) syllabus oi cadet work. The final outcome was the appointment ef a conimitee ol all shades of opinion to formulate a report for presentation at the next conference.”
