ANNUAL GOLF BALL

Mt. Herbert Club Function WAIPUJCURAU SUCCESS The members of the Mt. Herbert Golf Club held their first annual ball, in the Municipal Theatre, Waipukurau, on Tuesday evening. The committee, which had spared no pains to make the evening a success, must have been disappointed with tne attendance, which was not a large one for such a function, but those who end attend spent a very enjoyable evening. The organisation was excellent, and the committee worked hard. Miss Jean Findlay was the secretary, and working with her were, Mrs R» Hankey, Misses V. Blair, R. Hepburn, E. Hastie, Messrs G. Jones, R. Hankey and J. Johnson. Excellent music, with all the popular dance tunes, was played by the Ritz Orchestra from the decorated dais, placed at the upper end of the hall. Many novelty dances were introduced, and during the “spot waltz’’ confetti and many coloured balloons were let loose, the scene presented being a very gay one. 'The decoration scheme was most effective, and entailed a great deal of preparation. Long ropes of greenery, mingled with bright paper poppies, were fastened across to the four corners of the room, while suspended from central lights was a huge bell covered with greenery, coloured paper poppies and balloons. Round the walls at intervals there were placed huge clump? of cabbage trees and greenery. The stage, which was arranged as a lounge, was fronted with greenery and - cabbage trees, while autumn blooms were placed here and there on the stage itself. In the supper-room the long tables were prettily decorated with tall vases of coloured poppies and leaves, and here a very tempting supper was served. Among those present were:— Mrs K. Hankey, wearing a frock of white crepe georgette, the cowl neck fastened with a diamante clip, ana the skirt having a bustle back, the smart shoulder cape worn was composed of narrow goffered frills of white crepe georgette. Miss Jean Findlay, smart frock of pale blue and silver lame, fashioned with a cowl neck at back, and long slashed sleeves. Miss Ruth Hepburn, wearing a slim-ly-fltting gown of black velvet, net frills eivins: fullness to the skirt, and the backless corsage caught with a brilliants. clasp. Miss V. Blair, pretty dance frock in pale blue georgette, with graduated frills on the full skirt, full capelets, and a cowl front neckline. Mrs T. Given, evening ensemble in deep red lace, the fitting skirt having wide panels of georgette. Mrs M. Mcßae, wore leaf green crepe, bronze velvet flowers trimming the rounded neckline, and belt of tangerine velvet. Mrs J- C. Johnston, cyclamen georgette, the skirt having a deep hemline of wool lace. Mrs H. E. Coats, wearing a pretty dance frock in cream taffeta, patterned in orange and scarlet, the trained skirt having narrow frills. Mrs Goodson (Wellington), model gown in black hatters plush, worn with a smart velvet cape, banded in white fur. Mrs H. Tate, becoming frock of prune wool lace, with a deep berthe collar of lace. Mrs A. Annand, smartly fashioned trained gown in black panne velvet, the slit bodice fastened with small buttons at back. Mrs E. Scott, frock of daffodil yellow crepe, the deep shoulder folds coming to a point at back. Mrs W. B- Fisher, pretty flared frock in scarlet crepe, with high front neckline, and pointed at back. Mrs Frederickson, sliinly fashioned gown in deep gold satin. Mrs J. Spence (Hastings), wearing a flared frock in salmon pink satin. Miss Cheer, pretty dance frock in scarlet and blue floral georgette. Miss A. Adams, Mary blue floral organdie, the skirt finished with narrow frills, worn with a shoulder cape in old rose 'georgette, patterned in gold sequins. Miss C. Murray, graceful frock in pale pink georgette, the capelet sleeves edged with ruchings. Miss E. Tully, 1 model frock in turquoise green crepe, the shoulder frills and flat bow at back lined with silver lame. Miss M. Fleming, fully flared frock in cream and salmon pink plaid taffeta, the swathed sash having long ends. Miss D. Murray, smart dance frock in cream wool lace, the skirt having a deep knee frill, the shoulder straps of scarlet velvet were tied at back and fell in loqig ends. Miss Fairbrother was wearing a deep shoulder cape of scarlet satin over a frock in tlie same shade. Miss >B. McLauchlan, becoming dance frock in shell pink wool lace, the silver shoulder straps finished in front with pink velvet roses and diamante clip. Miss M. McCroskie (Wellington), weariug a frilled frock of pale pink stiffened net, over a satin foundation in a deeper shade. Miss J. Hartland, frock of misty blue taffeta, flowered in pink and blue, bice velvet cape. Miss J- McKenzie, ruby red velvet fully flared, with diamante clip on corsage. Miss M. Nelson, wearing white satin and net, with peacock blue velvet belt and shoes. Miss B. Tierney, frock of apricot crepe, with narrow silver belt. Miss W. White, slimly fashioned frock of white taffeta, flowered in blue and red. Miss J. Hall, frock of pink faille, finished with frills on skirt, the corsage was laced at back and had frill capelets, and flat bow at back, of pink velvet. Miss E. Kyle, dainty model in pale pink georgette, having insets of pale pink lace. Miss H. Haswell, frock of pale pink japonica crepe, having a silver lame belt. Miss Bennett, apricot ribbed crepe, the wide shoulder frills forming sleevelets. Miss Peggy Cochrane, very pretty frock in pale pink crepe, the slim fitting skirt having a bustle back. Miss M. Geenty, pale pink georgette and silk lace, the lace shoulder cape banded with white fur. Miss J. Parker, slimly fitting frock in scarlet satin. Miss M.
