BURGLARY IN HASTINGS
Arms and Ammunition Taken
LAND & HEIGHWAY’S SHOP
A somewhat daring burglary took place.in Land and Heighway’s sports goods depot during Thursday evening, when three firearms and a quantity of ammunition were stolen.
The intruders gained access into tho premises by forcing the main door, which is located behind a large show case. The lock remained intact, but the timbering plintered from the pressure applied by a jemmy or similar instrument. From the main shop, entrance was made into one of the main windows by unlatching a glass door.
The firearms, which consisted of two double-barrelled shotguns and a .22 rifle, were removed from the window, besides a considerable quantity of .22 and 12 gauge ammunition. A suitcase, which was evidently used for carrying the ammunition, was also taken. A quantity of goods were left strewn on the counter. It is estimated that the value of the goods known to have been stolen would exceed £25.
