Wallingford Dance

'The annual combined dance of the Wallingford Women’s Institute and the Golf Club, was held in th e Wallingford woolshed on Friday evening. The Wallingford dances are always looked forward to with pleasurable anticipation, but’Friday night's function surpassed all other occasions for cheerfulness and gaiety. . There were about 200 dancers present who had come from nil the surrounding districts, many Waipawa and Waipukurau patrons being present. AD* G. L. Jamieson, secretary of the Wallingford Women’s Institute, and Aliss A. Wilder, were the joint-secretaries, and deserve great credit for the excellent arrangements. The woolshed had been transformed into a delightful dance hall, masses of greenery, and vivid red and pink paper poppies’, being used for decorations.

Aliss Hodge’s orchestra’ Waipawa, gave a selection of popular dance music. The evening was interspersed with musical items by Messrs G. and 11. Winlove, and the Maori guests, these being well received. A waltzing competition was won by Aire. P. F. Wall and Mr H. Parsons.

A feature of the evening was the supper, the long tables being decorated with flat bowls filled with the Institute flower, marigold," intermingled with autumn leaves.

During the evening the opportunity was taken to farewell Air and Mrs AlcKinley, Air AlcKinley having been schoolmaster at the Wallingford school during the past five years. In making a presentation of a cheque, from the residents of the district, to the departing guests, Mr J. I>. Ormond eulogised the good works of Air and Airs AlcKinley, wishing them every prosperity in the future. A bouquet was presented to Airs AlcKinley. In replying, Air AlcKinley thanked Air Ormond and the residents on behalf of Airs AlcKinley and himself, for the gift and the kind things said. They would always look back in the years spent at Wallingford as being "very happy ones.
