MUSICAL SUCCESSES

Napier Competition Awards The following students from Mr and Mrs Truda’s studio were successful at the recent Napier musical competitions: Mr J. Warren gained first award in violin (open test) and also first place in violin open, own selection section, with Mr M. Daily securing second award in this section. Master G. Rakie tied for second place with another competitor in violin class under 12 years of age. Masters N, Spiller, B. Christie and E. Christie were placed second in trio instrumental section. Miss M. Hegett won the champion piano open section and the Briasco Challenge Rose Bowl. Miss Lola Houghton and Mies P. Walker were first in vocal section with own accompaniments, girls 16 to 20: Miss Houghton was also first in ladies’ operatic vocal solo, first in soprano solo, first in vocal solo girls 16 to 20 and received second award in ladies’ sacred vocal solo section and v.h.c. in song with obligato; Miss Doris Price tied with another competitor for second place in song with obligato section. Master Mat Blake was v.h.c. for song in costume section for boys or girls. Prospective vocal students from Hastings will bo given voice-testing free of charge by appointment only.
