BOXING TOURNAMENT

Schoolboys at Havelock N. AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS The schoolboy boxing' tournament held in the Foresters’ Hall, Havelock North, last evening was a complete success. The building was packed to its capacity and the programme was an outstanding one, every bout being excellent and providing the audience with a splendid evening’s sporting entertainment.

The performances of the boys were meritorious and the two coaches, Messrs Mussen (Parkvale) and Bligh (Havelock North), are to be congratulated upon training two such excellent teams. The good work being done by the boxing schools was referred to during the evening by Air J. 1). Donovan, chairman of the executive of the Hawke s Bay Boxing Association, who expressed his and the association’s thanks to Messrs Mussen and Biigh for the fine work that they were doing among the younger generation. On behallf of the pupils of the Parkvale School, Air Donovan also presented to Air Mussen a shaving outfit as an expression of appreciation of his tuition.

The officials for tho evening were as follow:—Referee, Air J. D. Donovan; judges, Alessrs J. Dexter and w’ Baillie; announcer Air H. G. Apperley; timekeeper, Air A. Chote. The results of the inter-school contests between Parkvale and Havelock North are as follow, the Parkvale representatives being mentioned first in each instance;—

H. Fannin (5.9) lost to 11. Evans (5.12).

B. Peters (6-1) beat L. Bligh (6.0). S. Peters (4.11) drew with A. Baldwin (5.1). H. Hammond (6.2) lost to Ladbrook (6.2). J. Jenkins (4-9) beat J. Bligh (5.6). D. AMnnis (5.12) beat J. Mullaney (6.1).

E. Lay (4.10) beat D. Smith (4.10). In addition to an exhibition bout between H. Sheridan (6.1) and D. McInnes (5.12) the following bouts were staged:—

H. Sohman (6.7) beat D. Tonkin (7.1). Blakey (9.0) beat AlcLaren (5.5). J. AMvor (7.2) drew with W. Bligh (7.3). E. Price (5.2) beat A. Jenkins (5.2).
