The Taradale Association
MEMBERSHIP REACHES 100 The annual meeting of the Taradale and District Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last evening, Mr J. Miller presiding over a large attendance of members.
Tho president, in his annual report, stated that the steady increase in membership throughout the year was not peculiar to any one branch, but was general througnout the Dominion. The Dominion membership of the Returned Soldiers’ Association had increased from 6000 in 1927 to over 21,000 for the year just closed. He was pleased to report that there had not been the tame amount of unemployment among members as was the case in the previous year, and he expressed tho hope that a further improvement in the position would result during the current year. 'Hie various annual functions held by the association throughout the year were all a success and assisted in maintaining the funds in a satisfactory position. The Poppy Day appeal, despite the inclemency of the weather, resulted iu £2O 15/- being collided and the thanks of the association were due to all who assisted. The innovation decided upon during the year ol holding quarterly reunions had been a decided success and he hoped that they would continue. Mr Miller concluded by expressing appreciation of the co-operation shown by the Taradale Town Board to the association in any representations made to it. To the retiring officers and members generally he extended his thanks tor their loyalty and assistance throughout the year. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow President Mr JMiller (re-elected); vice-president. Mr H. Alderton (re-elected); committee, Messrs E. Grunt, T. Johnson, A. Golding, R. Badley, S; Smith und Rev. F. L. Frost; secretary, Air W. Pollock (re-elected); treasurer, Mr J. Harris; auditor, Mr R. Langley. The question of purchasing a flagpole'for the memorial grounds was left in the hands of the incoming committee.
It was decided to hold the annual ball in the Taradale Town Hall oa Thursday, June 13. Seven new members were elected, increasing the membership roll to 100.
