Saturday’s Cricket Result

FOOTBALL MEETING From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, March 16. An easy victory was scored by the Waipukurau Old Boys' Cricket Club at Russell Park ou Saturday, the home eleven disposing of Otane by an innings and 30 runs. Old Boys batted first for 98 runs. Pat Monteith found the bowling to his liking and pasted it for an excellent 50, at which total his run-making was cut short by a difficult ball from Oram. E. Bliss followed next with 18, falling a victim to Phillips, A. Smales, the third double-scorer, being run out at 11. Bowling for Otane, Oram collected three wickets for 25 runs, Page three for 16 Phillips one for five and Higgs one for six. Otane’s first innings collapsed at 21, Hill and Spencer, Old Boys’ best bowlers on the day, scattering the wickets. Hill took four for six, C. Spencer four for four, the two giving a great display and proving themselves far too good tor the batsmen. J. W. Anderson took two for seven. Otane s second strike closed at 38, the visiting side shaping better with the Hill-Spencer combination taken off the bowling. Old Boys’ wickettakers on this occasion were: A. Smales tour for five. Bliss three for 11, Wallis two for six, and Monteith one for 13. 11.5.0.8. FOOTBALL CT.I’B. There was a good attendance of members at the annual general meeting of the Waipukurau 11.5.0.8. Football Club on Friday evening, Mt R. S Ricketts presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet showed that the club had enjoyed a successful season, receipts for the year totalling £5l 15/2, including £l3 17/8 brought forward. Expenditure amounted to £36 1/7, leaving a credit balance of £l5 13/7, compared with £l3 17/8 last year.

A resolution expressing the club’s deepest sympathy was accorded to Mr and Mrs 11. Brassell, in the death of their son, Torn, who was one of the club’s most promising and popular young players. A remit concerning the admittance or non-admittance of players after the date fixed for the first schedule of matches in the third round in an.' competition was left to the discretion of the delegates to the sub-union meeting. A vote of appreciation was accorded Mr Ricketts for his excellent service* as club delegate on the management committee of the sub-union, and nn honorarium was voted to Mr I’iki for his work in tl>e club’s interests. RIFLE SHOOTING. 'The second round for the Liinbrick Cup was fired off by the Waipukurau Defence Rifle Club on Saturday afternoon. The conditions were fair, with a variable right wind. 'I he scoring was good, Rifleman J. McVicar scoring 93, Rifleman C. Woodward 90, Rifleman F. Wilson 87.
