RETURNED SOLDIERS

Hastings Committee Meeting The monthly meeting of the committee of the Hastings Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last evening, Colonel Fl. Holderness presiding over Meters P. J. S. George, R. E. Hunt, C. Prebble, I*'. H. Goldfinch, L. J.. Mackersey, I). S. McLeod, T. E. O’Dowd, G. FL Roach and V. A. Thomson (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs L. J. B. Hammond and \V. A. Mdutyre. The Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment League, Wellington, wrote stating that copies of Lord Wakefield’s gift picture “Carillon” were available lor salt* in aid of the fund,s of the league. It was resolved to endeavour to dispose ot some of these locally. In connection with the headquarters request for particulars of prematurelyaged and “burnt-out” soldiers, the secretary reported that several names had been received, and it was decided to forward these to Wellington. Mr G. H. Roach reported on the preliminary for Poppy Day, to be held on Saturday, April 13, and these were adopted by the meeting. Arrangements were made for the Anzac Day observance, which is to take the same form as last year—viz., a shortened service in the Municipal Theatre, and afterwards a brief ceremony at the Cenotaph, where wreaths will be laid. The secretary announced that the financial memliership wap still increasing, a total of 331 having been reached. The meeting expressed its pleasure at the large number of cx-servicemcn who attended the recent reunion, when General Sir Alexander Godley and General Sir Andrew Russell were present. The wonderful reception accorded the distinguished visitors was particularly gratifying to all concerned.
