Better Facilities Sought GOOD WORK AT PUKEORA — From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, March 13. “Members are aware that the main reason of our sending so many representatives to Napier, was for the pur pose of endeavouring to obtain beitei facilities tor the up-to-date treatment of tuberculosis, ’ ’ said the secretary ol the Waipawa Hospital Board, Mr P R. Smyi'K, in his report to the board to-day on the recent Hospital Boards’ > crem e at Napier. “On the evening of Tuesday, March 5, your representatives, together will' iipresentatives of the Palmerston Korth Hospital Board, met the Dire<-tot-General of Health, Dr. Watt, and the Director of the Division of Ho> pitals, Dr. Shore. “The importance of the establish ment of tuberculosis inspection clinics throughout the North Island (other 'han in the main centre's), was unanimously agreed upon, and a circular was dratted, to be forwarded by the Direc-tor-General of Health, to all North Island boards, suggesting the establishment of such clinics Io he regularly v i'ited by (he medical stipe, nitendcnts of (Jttiki amj Pukeora Sanatoria, when all notified tuberculosis cases within the respective districts should be examined, and recommendations made us to the best method of treatment. In this direction, the circular will suggest to boards that an officer of the department, in company with a repre sentative and/or officer of the Palmer,si on or Waipawa Board, shall wait upon the boards and fully explain mat•'On Wednesday evening your representatives conferred with the chairman, medical superintendent and secret try of the Wellington Hospital Board, with a view io obtaining the admission to Pukeora Sanatorium of more cases from the Wellington district. Lt was pointed out by tho Wellington representatives, that there has been no delay in forwarding suitable cases from that area, and in this Dr. Maclean concurred. However, Mr Castle (chairman of the Wellington Board) promised to make full in quiries upon his return to Wei ington; and whilst nothing of a definite nature was obtained, the result of this meeting will, no doubt, do good. “Opportunity was also taken to interview the chairman and representatives of the Auckland and Wanganui Boards, and on Friday morning after the conference, these representatives, together with Dr, Craven, medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, made a visit to Pukeora Sanatorium. They unanimously expressed themselves ns very satisfied with tho general conditions for treatment, and facilities afforded at Pukeora, and Mr W. Wallace, chairman of the Auckland Board, promised that he would fully investigate the various points raised by our chairman, and that wo should hear further from the Auckland Board at an early date.” The chairman, Mr W. H. Rathbone, stated that the visitors had commented most favourably on the administration of the institution, and the treatment afforded the patients, and had also made special congratulatory reference to tho efficient operation of the sanatorium farm.
