More for the Breakwater
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I see by your report of proceedings at Monday’s meeting of the Napier Harbour Board that it is now propsed to build a concrete wharf at a cost of £61,000 in place of the wooden wharf to cost £20,000 included in the Breakwater scheme the chairman put before us ratepayers. Does this mean that we are to be saddled with an extra liability of £41,000 beyond the £400,000 of, fresh liability already imposed on us for making the Breakwater half-har-bour? What is the meaning, too, of the chairman’s statement about dredging to a depth of 35ft. instead of the 30ft. he told us would be all that was wanted? How is it these things are only thought of after the poll has been taken and the ratepayers effectually gagged?—Yours etc., RATEPAYER. Hastings, Sept. 19.
