Hospital Radio

(To the Editor.) Sir,—While realising that the present may be an inopportune time to ask the public to put their hands in their pockets and still find some spare cash to bring out, 1 am taking the liberty of making an appeal lor help, the objective of which is to equip the Hastings Memorial Hospital with radio, and the reason tor this appeal now, in face i 01 hard times, is that the work ol installation can be done more economically if it is undertaken while the additions to the hospital are being carried out. Some years ago the writer Joined with a number of others and raised lunds to equip the then maternity hospital with radio, and this proved itself a beneficial move, but now the hospital is to be enlarged to such an extent that the present radio receiver will have to be replaced auu the whole building will have to be wirod for the benefit of patients. 1 feel sure that there is no need to stress the value of radio to the sick, not only as a means of enjoyment but also as an aid to recovery, and I leel just as certain that this appeal will not be made in vain. Already, through the children's session at 2ZL, I have been able to acknowledge about £2O to start the fund along, but this is only about a tenth of what is required, so 1 again make the appeal for help t 0 relieve the burden of the sick and suffering. After all, £l5O to £2OO is not much to ask from a community like Hawke’s Bay and now that Hastings has its hospital, 1 know that the people will not allow it to Ing behind oth'-.r institutions just lor this small sum. Will you help our appeal please? If so, send just what you can afford to “Uncle Ed,’’ 2ZL, c/o Box 136. Hastings. All contributions will be thankfully acknowledged th rough the Press and will be paid into a trust account through Messrs Duff and Averill, solicitors. As the hospital building is to be started at once, I ask and appeal to you all to respond quickly so that the installation can be made in conjunction with the building. This appeal has the commendation oi the Hastings Hospital Committee and also the Mayor of Hastings, Mr G. A. Maddison. —Yours, etc., “UNCLE ED,” 2ZL, Hastings. Hastings, 19/9/34.
