(Received 19, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 18

At the wool sales 11,616 bales were offered, including 2,520 New Zealand; about 5,165 were sold. There was a fair selection and a large attendance, but the Germans were absent. There was good general competition, and tho bulk of tho offering was sold.

Compared with July closing rates, greasy Merinos were 7) to 10 per cent, lower, scoul'eds 10 to 15 per cent, lower, crossbreds, slipes, 5 to 10 per cent, lower.

New Zealand prices: Slipe, hulfbred lambs. Belfast, top 13d, average 12Jd.

Murray Roberts and Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house: —“Sales have opened with a good tone. Competition good. Yorkshire principal buyers and buying freely French, buyers operating moderately Compared with last London sales’ closing rates: Greasy Merino, wool suitable tor Yorkshire, declined 10 per cent.; wool suitable for Continent, declined 15 to 20 per cent.; faulty and inferior descriptions show the greatest decline; scoured Merino, medium to good, declined 10 to 15 per cent; scoured Merino, inferior, declined 15 to 20 per cent.; crossbred greasy come-back and half bred, declined 10 to 15 per cent.; crossbred greasy line, declined 10 per cent.; crossbred greasy coarse to medium, dedined 5 to 10 per cent.; slipe crossbred declined 10 per cent.; scoured crossbred declined 10 to 15 per cent.; scoured crossbred pieces and locks declined 5 to 10 pci- cent. ’

Disheartening Prices

(Received 19, 11.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 19.

The wool-selling season for Victoria has begun, 6500 bales being offered. Prices were disheartening, the market being 25 per cent, lower than at the first sales last year but values suffered no decline on the rates realised at Sydney.
