HAVELOCK NORTH NOTES

Fire Brigade Entertained

The Havelock North Volunteer Fire Brigade was entertained in it* own station by the Tomoana. Fire Brigade last evening, returning a very enjoyable evening the latter had spent at Havelock North, but not having a social room of its own, arrangements were made to hold the return visit in the Havelock North station. The Tomoana brigade provided refreshments and supper. The evening was spent in playing cards, the honours going to To moana.

The Havelock North Domain Board has commenced top-dressing the playing area in readiness for the cricket season. The Havelock North Football Club had the use of the Domaia for its competitions during the winter, but very few matches were played after the first round. There is every likelihood of a Soccer club applying for the ground next winter, and as far as can be ascertained it is prepared 'to offer a good remuneration for use of the ground. The Havelock North bowling green is in splendid condition for the time of the year. If weather conditions are favourable, it is hoped to commence play at the end of the month. The date of the official opening baa not yet been decided upon. The Havelock swimming baths have recently been repainted and are look ing in first-class order. The swimming season is fast approaching and everything will be in readiness for the opening.

There was a good attendance in the Village Hall last evening, when tho Maori male voice choir gave a very en joyable entertainment, consisting of glees, comedies, hakas, poi dances and instrumental items; also a most original item, a voice orchestra. The troop of performers is travelling the North and South Islands and will appear in Hastings to-morrow evening.
