RIFLE SHOOTING

H.B. Miniature Championships

CUP TO W. J. BURTON

The Hauke’s Bay Miniature Rifle Association held its third annual outdoor championship prize meeting on the association’s range during the weekend. Forty-live competitors, representing the principal Hawke’s Bay clubs and clubs as tar afield as Manawatu and Wanganui, tell in under rangeofficer B. Bitters.

Conditions were ideal from the marksmen's point of view, a very slight rear fishtail wind providing enough uncertainty to make the shooting interesting at the longer ranges. Shooting was of a remarkably high standard throughout, even for a championship gathering. W. .J. Burton, of Hastings, in taking the Hawke’s Buy championship from T. Prichard, of Wanganui, with the splendid average of 48 for the five matches shot, now has the distinction of being the holder of the two principal New Zealand outdoor miniature championships, as he won the North Island championship held at Wanganui last December. A silver cup, awarded this year by the association lor the top women scorer resulted, after keen competition, in Mrs Paul (Hastings) taking top honours.
