WHARFAGE RATES

Increase Decided On I/- A TON ON CARGO In terms of the harbour loan proposals which were recently placed before the ratepayers in the Napier Harbour Board district, and endorsed, the board has decided to impose one shilling a ton wharfage on inward and outward cargoes. These recommendations came before the board at its meeting yesterday, and as soon as they have passed through the processes demanded by regulation, they will come into force. Mr Geddis said it was recommended that there should be an incease of 1/a ton wharfage on both inward and outward cargoes, excepting Government cargo and excluding coal. This was part of the board’s policy, which had been approved by the ratepayers and referred to the by-laws committee for consideration and report, The committee had given the matter careful consideration and recommended the increases mentioned. Consideration was given to transhipment rate concessions given to shippers of wool from the coast in and through Napier. It was decided to abolish this by-law. The chairman put these recommendations to the meeting, and on the seconding of Mr E. J. Herrick, the board approved them.
