HASTINGS WORKLESS
New Organisation Formed
A mass meeting of unemployed was held in the Hastings Trades Hall last evening when it was decided to form another unemployed organisation to be known as the Hastings Workers’ Union, to which workers of any organisation would be free to join. Mr J. Webster, the convenor, presided, and in outlining his reasons for calling the meeting contended that neither of the two organisations at present in Hastings, was bringing about a satisfactory state of affairs from the viewpoint of the unemployed. He urged the necessity of having the cooperation and support of all so as to unify the unemployed. The meeting decided to form a new organisation and elected the following officers: —President, Mr J. Webster; vice-president, Mr J. McCue; secretary, Mr J. Hill; treasurer, Mrs R. Bellerby; executive, Messrs A. H. Maddox, A. Marnoch and W. H. Anderson.
The next meeting will be held on Sunday evening at the Trades Hall.
