HASTINGS R.S.A.
Meeting of Committee
SUPPORT FOR COMING BALL
The usual monthly meeting of the committee of the Hastings Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last evening. Mr P. J. S. George (vice-chair-man) presided over Messrs F. H. Goldfinch, D. 8. McLeod, C. Prebble, R. E. Hunt, 1., J. Mackersey, 1„ J. B. Hammond, W. A. Mclntyre, T. E. O’Dowd, and V, A. Thomson (secretary). Apologies were received from Col. H. Holderness (president), Messrs G. H. Roach, and D. T. McCormick.
Dominion headquarters wrote forwarding two alternative forms of service for Armistice Day. It was decided to defer consideration of this matter until the October meeting of the committee, the opinion being expressed that the form of service held at the cenotaph in Hastings last year could hardly be improved upon. The secretary reported that the financial membership to date was -17, and that thtere were good prospects of exceeding 300 before the end of the year.
Mr T. E. O’Dowd, organiser for the forthcoming R.S.A. ball, reported on the arrangements that had so far been made, and suggested that a general meeting of the Ball Committe be held towards the end of this month to report progress. It was very gratifying to know that, a large measure of enthusiastic support had been received, not only from returned soldiers but also from the general public, he added.
