SCOTTISH EVENING
Port Ahuriri Caledonians
The Port Ahuriri Caledonian Society held “A Members’ Night” in Stuart's Hall, Port Ahuriri, last evening, Chieftian John McConnell presiding. There was again a large attendance. This young society has made rapid strides since its formation a few months ago, and has now a membership roll of 128. Last evening the rules of tho society were read and confirmed and other routine business transacted. The remainder of the evening was of a social character, a well arranged programme of Scottish and old-time dances being gone through to excellent music supplied by Sirs Berry. Air W. J. Key the society’s honorary secretary carried out the duties of .M.C. most capably. The following items were contributed by members: —Highland fling, Miss Alice Key; song, Master Maurice Williams; Dutch clog dance, Aliss Ann Moody; Irish jig. Miss Jessie Smith; song, Miss Richards: hornpipe. Miss Joylene Key. Pipe-Major Lawson. the society's official piper, piped for the individual dances. A first-class supper was provided by the ladies, and the gathering broke up with “Auld Lang Syne”.
